Wat Kudi Dao, Ayutthaya

Khon at Kudi Dao Temple is located on the east side of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Railway Station, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya

Wat Kudi Dao was once a prominent Buddhist temple in Ayutthaya, Thailand. It’s origins were during the reign of King Narai. The temple is also dubbed, ‘The Monastery of the Star Dormitory’. According to documents the temple was the residence of Phra Then Muni, an important priest who advised Crown Prince Boromakot during his residence there, and was later involved in various negotiations about the succession.

The prominent features of this temple are its stupas at the centre flanked by a grand hall called an ‘ubusot’ to the east. Wat Kudi Dao was abandoned with the fall of the empire in 1767, but these beautiful ruins still stand proudly today, a grand reminder of the incredible craftsmanship of a bygone era.
