3 Days Trip Guide to Krabi – Places to Visit

This one has taken a bit longer than expected to pen down. Our visit to Krabi was nothing short than a learning curve. Whenever we travel to a new place we try and fit in as many things as possible in our itinerary and more often than not the number of days always fall short. Do you ever experience that?!

This time also we had a heavy duty itinerary prepared, but ended up doing only half of what we had researched and penned down. Why? Well, some of it can be blamed on to the weather but mostly it’s to do with us finding happiness in taking it slow and enjoying the views, the beaches, the waves and the food at a very leisurely pace, and trust me it’s so worth it!!

So here’s what we did on our short 3 days trip to Krabi!

Day 1

We had a connecting flight from Bangkok to Krabi and reached Krabi at around 12 PM, where we were staying at a lovely boutique hotel called Aonang Phu Petra. We had arranged for airport transfers from the hotel only, however, if you’re not into that kind of thing, you can easily book a cab or a minivan at the airport itself or you can even pre-book online through companies like krabishuttle.com, krabiprivatetaxi.com etc.

The airport transfer rates are more or less reasonable, the most expensive being the one arranged by the hotel (obviously we got to know about it later!) and the least expensive being sharing the minivan. It took us roughly 40 minutes to reach our hotel and they were kind enough to check us in a bit early.

It was drizzling when we reached and thus we decided to stay indoors for the afternoon and just chilled by the hotel poolside.

We spent the evening at the beach which was pretty quiet and calming but the nearby pubs were buzzing with life and it sounded like the perfect start for our holiday ? We didn’t party for too long though as we had an early morning call time for our 4 island Tour.

Day 2

One thing you wouldn’t want to miss out on when in Krabi is the island hopping tour. There are a variety of tours offered by several operators, some offer a 4 island tour, a few of them also have a 6 island tour, some take you on speed boats and some take you on the long tail boats.

You get to do snorkelling, kayaking, etc depending on the weather and most of them have lunch included in the package, the idea is to just go out there and enjoy the views of turquoise blue and green water and beautiful limestone cliffs which will be embedded in your memory forever.

Luckily for us the weather was on our side and we were able to really make the most of it.

Tip – carry lots of sunscreen and water. It is going to be really hot and sunny out there.

Next up, Street Shopping & Street food

If you are in Thailand make sure you have some stash kept aside for street shopping and street food – it’s a fantastic experience…. really cheap and really good (even if you are not visiting Bangkok)!

You can get some crazy T-shirts, cool sandos and quirky eye masks to Buddha art effects, from oil canvas paintings to hand-carved wine bottle holders…they have it all and the prices are unbelievable so just go and have a look around.

Same with street food, just experiment with whatever is there, our highest recommendations, however, are the Papaya Salad, the Coconut ice cream and of course the Legendary Singha Beer!

Day 3

It was an overcast day and a visit to the Tiger Cave Temple came highly recommended from a friend for its views but along came the warning about its never-ending steep steps to reach to the viewpoint- 1276 steps to be precise and we thought we will give it a miss.

The second most popular activity was to go on the tree top adventure and that was around and hour and a half ride away from the hotel, we wanted to go there but our hotel’s pool was so inviting that we decided to just hang by the pool, have some really awesome beer and go for a relaxing Thai massage in the noon…which was followed by an afternoon siesta while it poured like cats and dogs outside and later in the evening when the weather had cleared we stepped out took a short boat ride to the Railay beach which is known for its awesome sundowners but since it was an overcast day we weren’t able to view the perfect sunset. Nevertheless, the view was still mind-blowing.

Well, Krabi has a plethora of things to explore like pristine beaches, beautiful Islands (straight from Hollywood flicks), great viewpoints, awesome beer, adventure getaways, beautiful temples, fantastic shopping, romantic sunsets, blissful massages, and the yummiest of street food. As you just read some of the above-mentioned things we were able to experience and for the rest of it there’s always the next time. Yup that’s it – I just said it, we would Love to come back to Krabi again ?
